Gran RU is new kind of acoustic wall panel collection in which the visual world of Finnish and Scandinavian traditional handicraft, lasting ecological materials and innovative processing methods are combined. Collection design is inspired by traditional tufted rugs, ryijyt in Finnish.
To create GranRU in real life meant development of new production methods to create graphic pattern which consists of hundreds of x’s, which are either impressed or raised from the surface of the panel. Something not see before in acoustic wall panels to our knowledge. In practice that meant hours and hours of hard work, prototypes and numerous different production problems to be solved.
Wilhelmiina Kosonen is a Helsinki based interior designer. She has studied furniture and spatial design at the Aalto University, Helsinki.
Wilhelmiina’s work is often inspired by traditional handicraft, visual arts and
humorous characters. Regardless of her conceptual approach to design her
way of working is very hands on and in touch with the material used.
The Gran RU Collection is Wilhelmiina’s interpretation of the visual content of an acoustic wall panel. Inspired by the stories told through the symbols in the traditional tufted rugs and finding contemporary working methods, is her way of contributing and continuing the tufted rug tradition.
